2021 Plans

The shack has been sitting there basically being used as a cabin getaway. But here in 2021, the plans are afoot to change the whole thing into a tiny home. In order to do that, there are only a few things that need to be done.

First, the back wall needs to be replaced. This will require removing the sheathing, removing a few rows of cement block, insulating and putting up new sheathing. We’re expecting that to take a couple of days.

Here’s a nifty drone video of the back of the shack and the lake it sit next to.

That’s when the real excitement starts. The majority of the interior will be gutted, insulated, paneled, and a new ceiling put in.

Here’s some photos with a paragraph about each one.

This is a photo of one of the small solar panels for the solar powered lights. You can see the wires under the eaves and one of the lights on the corner. This set was about $90 and is well built from the local big box home improvement store.

The nice thing about this setup is the battery case has an excellent gasket to seal the batteries. It runs year round and the lights will stay lit for most of the overnight hours.

In this photo you can see one of the LED solar lights over the door. The other lighting is a pair of outdoor LED floodlights. The nice thing about LEDs is they use almost no energy and last a long, long time. The floodlights are powered by the inverter and are 110 volt.

The housing they are screwed into is from 1965 and still works just fine.

They let us sit outside at night and keep all of the Sasquatch away.

This is a photo of the wall that leads to the storage room and part of the kitchen setup. Right now, we use a propane camp stove that is due to be replaced with an RV range top, also propane powered. Yes, that’s a microwave. Since this photo was taken, there is also a cube fridge as well.

The big thing about this photo is that all of this is going away. The space between the green table that the stove and microwave are on will be the doorway to the addition where the new kitchen and bathroom will be.

The plywood walls that you see will be converted to brick paneling.

The reason for using the plywood for the walls is simple – they add strength to the building, keeping it rigid and non – flexing. Remember, this started as a porch.

This is a shot of the bedroom with the 4 poster cedar bed I built. The photo was taken the day I got done with the insulation that you can see on the far wall and the first sheet of paneling on the left side.

This is the first room that will be done, with insulating the ceiling. The ceilings will be made of wood strips from Home Depot.

This is the storage area which I admit is pretty neglected but what I wanted to show is the plywood box under the plastic storage tote.

That is the box that the battery bank sits in. The rounded hole in the bottom left corner of the plywood box under the plastic tote is where the inverter mounts.

You can also see the old Kerosene heater as well.
